Ivan martinetti brings a different approach to Ocean Awareness and protection. He is to the Sea Shepherd what the Buddha is to pirates. The world’s Oceans need all the help they can and both side of the environmentalist’s spectrum is needed. In today’s supersonic world, there is something to be said about taking time to teach ocean awareness. Walking 700 miles along the coast of California from San Francisco to San Diego with the goal to “Slowly Make THE Difference”. Martinetti chose to walk instead of riding a bicycle to demonstrate the power of taking small steps where every action counts, no matter how small.

“It is important that we all do something and not allow the enormity of the human caused environmental disasters such as ocean plastic pollution to overwhelm us to the point where we feel that there is nothing that we can do. The truth is that anyone can make a difference just by simply saying “NO LID PLEASE” next time they order that coffee in their favorite coffee shop!

Along the way Ivan is going to do beach cleanups, document pollution, set up street school aquarium presentations, write daily blog entries, and meet with business owners to introduce them to the HANDSHAKE ECO PROJECT (which helps them reduce the amount of waste their businesses generate). He also finds the time to talk to local radio stations and newspapers.

Ivan is carrying a 6 foot wide banner of EVERY STEP COUNTS – Slowly Making THE Difference taking photos with people and the banner along the way, to take the time to tell them all about what his journey and the goal of such a grassroots project.

I am taking surveys in Starbucks coffee shops along the way which I am planning to present to Starbucks head office after I finish my walk. I am taking a guitar with me which will give me an oportuinity to promote the cause in more ways than one. I will also be practicing random acts of gratitude by giving away awesome Blue Marbles to people I meet.

Follow the great adventures of the blue turtle on Ivan’s blog BlueTurtle.com sharing daily stories and posting photos of the trash on the TrashCounter.com.
